N/AFloremilda Baca and her husband Mercedes Carranza started coffee cultivation in 1991 as their main economic activity. The couple founded their home in the community of Gracias a Dios, Lonya Grande, Amazonas, and have been producing coffee for more than 20 years.
In 2002, they were founding members of the JUMARP cooperative that was founded in the area. In 2021, the family decided to start a private company called All Coffee Peru, where Floremilda is currently a specialty coffee supplier and where we sourced this coffee from.
Floremilda's farm is called El Laurel, the farm is between 1600 - 1800 meters above sea level and covers 3 hectares, all of which are grown with coffee. The farm is named after the timber trees found at the farm. In the beginning, Floremilda invested in timber trees, which unfortunately didn't work out. The result was a farm with coffee under shade and a full bay of trees.
El Laurel farm produces specialty coffee from the following varieties: Caturra, Bourbon, Geisha, and Limaní. Floremilda uses island guano (bird poo) and coffee peel compost to enrich the soil. For a coffee under the washing process, it takes two days of anaerobic fermentation and two days of post-pulped fermentation before drying on trays and solar dryers.
This lot has Bourbon, Caturra & Typica. The farm produces around 65 exportable 69kg bags per year. The screen size varies between 14/15.
The coffee is a grown at high altitude, under shade, and a lot care taken for it. The quality that is perceived when drinking is the quality that is breathed if you visit the farm in Amazonas. The real impact is generated by those who drink coffee from Floremilda Baca.
Floremilda and Mercedes have given their children education thanks to their coffee sales. Floremilda's daughter, Pamela Carranza, is an agronomist and one another is responsible for commerical sales and a part of the Board of Directors at All Coffee Peru.
All Coffee Peru provides technical assistance to it's partners through the quality control and certification area. They visit periodically to evaluate and train the producers at the farm. For its part, the commercial area enables and updates its producers on market demands and roaster expectations.
In this way, producers learn more closely how to prepare microlots. The company invests in improving the main processes, such as fermentation and drying, and in technical evaluation of microlots and improving the cupping scores.
