About this Coffee

Who produced the La Coipa Microlots?

Maria Nieves Tantalean and Maria Gloria Neira are both members of Alpes Andino, and they have been involved in coffee production since childhood.

Where is the farm?

For the past 5 years, they have been growing Caturra, Bourbon, and Geisha varieties of coffee in La Coipa, at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. Their farms are also home to lemon and palto trees. Coffee production is the primary economic activity for both producers, just as it was for their parents who taught them their craft.

How was this coffee processed?

To produce their coffee, they harvest the mature cherry trees, wash them, and let them ferment for 72 hours before washing them three more times. Then, they dry the beans in a solar dryer for 15 to 20 days. They grow a mix of Caturra, Bourbon, and Typica coffee varieties, and fertilise their crops with island guano (bird poo) and coffee pulp. Each of them has a 2-hectare farm, and they each produce 1380 kgs of coffee in parchment, roughly 20 exportable 69kg bags per year.

The role of Alpes Andinos for this coffee?

Alpes Andinos provide quality improvement workshops, and buy coffee at parchment which is cupped and paid for according to quality. The coffee is processed at a screen size of 15, and the effort to produce specialty coffees is recognised by a fair price that takes into account the quality and care put into their production.

What the producers want you to know

Alpes Andinos  are recognised as a company of high-quality and support the producers seeking sustainability and a long-term relationship with roasters. The organisation supports everyone for communal benefit, protecting the environment, and working on social inclusion to group more producers.
